John Ryan established John Ryan Removals in 1974 operating from premises in Huntingdale, Victoria. In a short period of time, his business became the leading commercial removalist in Melbourne. Major relocations that John Ryan managed in his early days included The Age newspaper from Collins Street to its present site in Spencer Street, the MMBW (Melbourne Water) and VicRail to new Head Offices.
In 1980, the operations moved to Springvale in Victoria and became Head Office to branches in Sydney, Brisbane and Townsville. Agency relationships were subsequently formed in Canberra, Tasmania, Adelaide and Perth.
John Ryan focused heavily on providing first class "value for money" removals and quickly gained this reputation by establishing a sound corporate base with some of the largest Australian companies.
John Ryan Removals now provides over a thousand removals per year for Toll Transitions, a continuous trading partner for over 30 years. Toll Transitions manage the relocation of all Australian Defence personnel, government departments and corporations.
1997 saw the inclusion of international removals to its list of services. This enabled John Ryan Removals to offer a complete range of relocation services that are fully controlled from within the operating perimeters of the family business.
In 2002, John Ryan Removals were affiliated to the worldwide peak moving industry body FIDI and successfully obtained FAIM Quality Accreditation, a quality accreditation specifically designed to the international moving industry. We are the first company in Australia to achieve a four year desk top audit by reaching the qualifying benchmark.
Through the FIDI network, suitable removal agents around the world have been selected on their ability to provide the broad range of services the corporate world demands. Our home is now based on a new 15,000m2 site in Dandenong South Victoria where we cater for all forms of furniture storage within our containerised and modular storage systems.
In 2004, control of the business moved to the second generation with Tony and Damian Ryan becoming joint Managing Directors after they purchased the business of John Ryan Removals with the aim of being a superior service provider in Melbourne for local, office, interstate and international removals in addition to our first class storage facility.
